Super 8 Hotel Chain Brings its Business to Turkey

Date: 1.06.2013

In a signature ceremony held during the Central Asia and Turkey Hotel Investment Conference (CATHIC), the U.S.-based economy business hotels chain Super 8, a brand of the world's largest hotel group, Wyndham, marked its entry into the Turkish hospitality market.

The signature ceremony for the hotel chain's Turkish licensing rights was hosted by İlbak Holding and Wyndham Hotel Group at The Marmara Hotel on May 30, 2013, with both Mustafa İlbak, Chairman of the Board of İlbak Holding, and Eric Danziger, Chairman and CEO of Wyndham Hotels, in attendance. Jonathan Worsley of CATHIC and the guests from business and media sectors also attended, and the timing of the agreement was concurrent with Wyhndham Hotels' move to launch its Super 8 brand in other European countries.

Under an exclusive development agreement, İlbak Holding, already a leading investor in media, advertising, mining and construction sectors, will launch the new Super 8 economy hotels in Turkey.

"At the beginning of 2012, we took the first step in our relationship with Wyndham, an international giant in the tourism sector, and launched the Ramada Plaza Tekstilkent Hotel project," said Mustafa İlbak, chairman of İlbak Holding. "We are delighted to strengthen our existing relationship with Wyndham Hotel Group through this significant project and work together to introduce the Super 8 brand to Turkey. With the granting of the Turkish licensing rights of the US-based Super 8 economy business hotel chain, we firmly believe that we will be able to add new dimension to the urban hotel sector."

"I'm very happy to be able to collaborate once again with İlbak Holding," noted Eric Danziger, Wyndham Hotel Group president and chief executive officer. "This agreement launches our Super 8—the world's largest economy business hotel brand—in Turkey, concurrently with Europe, and it is extremely exciting as it truly enables us to offer a solution to each and every guest in the market, regardless of budget or travel purposes."

Wyndham Hotel Group owns 7,380 hotels and has over 631,800 rooms in 66 countries, and İlbak Holding aims to add 20 new Super 8 hotels in Turkey over the next 10 years. Combining quality and comfort, Super 8 provides 18 to 20 square meter rooms, offering hospitality that meets the needs of the business world.

The first Super 8 hotel is expected to open in Istanbul in 2014, followed by others in additional Turkish cities.
